Evelyn is an art educator teaching art courses and workshops at organizations in Connecticut (Silvermine Arts Center and Rowayton Arts Center). Evelyn teaches a variety of mediums, working with beginner level to intermediate. When teaching, her hope is to encourage creative thought and process, even when reviewing the foundations Evelyn wants to inspire your own artistic voice. Evelyn received her BFA in Painting from Pratt Institute and MFA in Painting from Savannah College of Art and Design.

Courses are multi week structured classes, typically building and developing on skills from one week to the next. Evelyn instructs a variety of art courses.

Workshops are a single class program or a mini series reviewing a medium of art and/or creating with the goal of finishing a project within that session.

Evelyn can work with you one on one to expand artistic skills, review materials, art mediums, and portfolio development.

Each session introduces core artistic concepts, giving students the chance to explore both control and expressive freedom in each medium. A beginner drawing class designed to develop basic drawing skills to create a three dimensional illusion onto a flat surface using drawing tools and paper. The class explores line expression, line variation, scale and proportion, depth, composition, and value to render an image. Utilizing a still life to draw from and instructor demonstrations, student implement these drawing skills into their own work. In this 5 week program design, carve, and print your own image with linoleum! Relief printmaking is the process of strategically removing the printable surface to create a fixed design that can be printed many times over. Develop your own design considering positive and negative space, transfer and carve the design, and print. In addition, this course reviews one and two color printing. Color is an important and complex element in art and design. In this color theory workshop, taught by Evelyn Harvey, you will analyze and determine the properties of color, explore color relationships, and learn to utilize the color wheel.
Using acrylic paint as the medium, students will mix color using only the primary colors (red, blue, and yellow) to create a wide range of hues, engaging with color shifts, changes, and visual tones. Students will create a “color wheel–like” painting that explores color mixing through a final image. One-on-one feedback is provided, and group discussion is encouraged. Have fun creating your own summer themed prints and cards using the art of block printmaking. In this workshop, instructor Evelyn Harvey will introduce students to the fun and accessible art of block printmaking. Evelyn will discuss the aspects of good block design and will teach students how use the tools needed to create the look they’re striving for.

The main printing methods will be Gelli plate – quick, expressive, with layer capabilities, and watercolor monotypes – drawing and color focus, print using the printing press. Work with tools to carve, cut, ink, and print your own design. Similar to a rubber stamp, explore the graphic design process of transforming your image into a single color print. Students will use carving tools to carve away to the surface of a rubber block, leaving behind a ‘relief’ image that can be inked and printed many times. Evelyn Harvey is an artist and enjoys teaching the visual arts. She currently works with a variety of organizations to bring art to the community. She received her BFA in painting from Pratt Institute and MFA in painting from SCAD.
Evelyn values creativity, individuality, skills, and visual expression. It is the goal to instill these values in her teaching to create an environment of diverse and critical thought, experimentation, and decision making.
